As Pro-Life Global slowly grows our impact in India, we are encountering both challenges and miracles.
In India, the cultural silence surrounding abortion is deep. For married couples, it’s often treated as just another method of family planning. Conversely, when an unwed woman becomes pregnant, she often faces shame and isolation. Because of the cultural shame, she often feels pressure to have an abortion.
Since the topic of abortion is so taboo, our Indian leaders have faced difficulty in building connections with those in India. But even in these early days, God is at work — and because of your prayers and support, lives are already being saved.
Baby James is Born!
Another story came to us through a mutual connection in the Jesus Youth pro-life network. A young couple, recently married against their families’ wishes, had moved to a South Indian city far from home. When they discovered they were expecting, they felt overwhelmed financially and emotionally, and unsure of how to move forward.
Our leader, Anse, learned about their situation and realized that the couple was struggling with finances, as well as housing. He acted swiftly, helping to find employment and housing for the couple. Anse also invited the father to a charismatic retreat, where he had a profound encounter with God. Because of the financial and spiritual help the couple received, they felt empowered to choose life! Just last week, their baby boy, James, was born.
The couple continues to receive support from Cradle of Grace, a newly formed parish-based pro-life ministry. Remarkably, the founders of Cradle of Grace were trained through our Pro-Life Global Training in India last March!
Baby Annie’s Mother Chose Life!
During the March for Life in India, we learned of a young woman, originally from India but now living in New Zealand. She became pregnant by her boyfriend, and while they had plans to marry, he became distant after learning about the pregnancy. Afraid and uncertain, she reached out to our Indian leaders through social media, asking if there were any options for support.
Esmin and Anse, two of our leaders, responded with compassion and action. They connected her with Jesus Youth, a local Catholic and pro-life community in New Zealand. Thanks to their support, this courageous mother chose life. Her baby, Annie, was born this March! The mother now hopes to join the pro-life movement herself to help other women in crisis situations.
The Movement Is Just Beginning
India has long needed a strong, youth-led pro-life presence — and now, it’s beginning. We are actively working with medical students and other Indian students to form student-led LIFE teams. Fighting against the cultural stigma and fear, our leaders need prayer. Yet despite the challenges, God is working miracles! With His help, and your support, lives are being saved, even though there is much to be done in India.
